The idea to create a belief statement originated in the 1950s with the famous American reporter, Edward R. Murrow. When introducing the original series to the public, Murrow said,
Never has the need for personal philosophies of this kind been so urgent." The radio program was resurrected in 2005 and has been broadcast on National Public Radio ever since.
